Let’s jump into this, I’m very excited about starting this blog discussing such a huge part of my life Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT).
CMT causes degeneration of the peripheral nerves. Which leads to muscle weakness; mostly in lower legs, feet, hands, and forearms. CMT is caused by defects in the gene that create and maintain the myelin sheath. Depending on the type of CMT it can vary based on the onset of disease and severity.
To share a little bit about myself I am 21 years old, I am a wife, stepmom and a total badass. I was born with CMT1 and diagnosed around the age of four. My mother is such an amazing and strong woman, she raised me to always be aware of my disease but not to let it hold me back or to ever feel sorry for myself. I think in our eyes my extra clumsiness made me funnier, bubblier and who I am. I can proudly say we have always done our best to make the best out of this crazy life.
Always being aware of my disability and understanding that it does have a huge impact on my life, I’ve wanted to know more about it and more about people that go through the same struggles I do. I feel sharing my story, my struggles and my strengths can help others someway somehow.
I hope you will be here to stay and continue to keep up with me! I look forward to sharing so much more of my story.
